Accreditation

Santa Clara - Ivins Fire & Rescue > About Us > Accreditation

Fire department accreditation through the Center for Public Safety Excellence represents marked international achievement for fire department excellence.  The Fire Department is currently undergoing the multi-year process for accreditation which provides for a comprehensive review of internal systems, operations and helps direct future decision-making.  According to the Center for Public Safety Excellence, key markers during our review will include providing greater community alignment, encouraging quality improvement, facilitating inputs and building positive relationships, identifying strengths and weaknesses, providing a plan for improvement, providing data to support decision making, improving local communication and internal processes.  The accreditation process typically takes 3-5 years to complete and will also focus on improving Fire Department programs including, prevention, public education, technical rescue, hazmat response, fire investigation, fire origin and cause, emergency preparedness, fire suppression, emergency medical services, and wildland firefighting.

Insurance Service Office

ISO’s Public Protection Classification Program (PPC) plays an important role in the underwriting process at insurance companies.  In fact, most U.S. insurers – including the largest ones – use PPC information as part of their decision-making when deciding what business to write, coverages to offer or prices to charge for personal or commercial property insurance.

Each insurance company independently determines the premium it charges its policyholders.  The way an insurance uses ISO’s information on public fire protection may depend on several things – the company’s fire-loss experience, rating methodology, underwiring guidelines, and its marketing strategy.

PPC is important to communities and fire departments as well.  Communities whose PPC improves may get lower insurance prices.  PPC also provides fire departments with valuable benchmarks and is used by many departments as a valuable tool when planning, budgeting, and justifying fire protection improvements.

As a result of re-opening your Center Street Fire Station, Santa Clara-Ivins Fire Rescue is currently undergoing review from ISO.  Results and findings will be presented here on this page in the next few months.
