Are You Ready to Join Our Team?

As a firefighter/emergency medical technician, you will have the opportunity to serve the public by responding to many challenging emergency situations.  You will be tasked to perform in a demanding environment that will challenge you both physically and mentally – are you ready for the challenge?  Santa Clara-Ivins firefighters are responsible for mitigating emergencies to an area that spans over 400 square miles.  This means you will respond to a diversity of calls like vehicle extrications, floods, canyon rescues, wildfires, house and vehicle fires, as well as medical emergencies.

Being a firefighter is not just an exciting job, but a career that will allow you to become a part of American firefighting history that spans hundreds of years beginning in the colonial era.  This means you will begin your journey of networking and career growth not only locally here in Utah, but you will have the opportunity to network nationally with other fire departments and government agencies like the FBI & National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).  Your path begins here, but where the journey ends, is up to your willingness and motivation!

As a career firefighter you will also have the opportunity to earn up to $76,348 a year, not including constant staffing opportunities.  Additional benefits like city paid health, dental and vision care for you and your family, URS Public Safety Retirement, city matching 401K, health & wellness screening, uniform allowance and special pay opportunities provide long-term stability.

Minimum Requirements for Entry Level Firefighter

(FST™) Written Exam

The Firefighter Selection Tool (FST™) was designed to measure numerous areas that are related to successful performance as a firefighter. Specifically, the FST™ contains questions covering two broad areas: cognitive abilities and non-cognitive traits. It is important to note that the FST™ does not measure job-specific knowledge or any specific skills that require specialized training. You will not need any specific firefighting knowledge or skills to succeed on the FST™.

(CPAT) Physical Ability Exam

Santa Clara-Ivins Fire Rescue contracts with PST to coordinate the Candidate Physical Abilities Exam (CPAT) exam.  We will accept CPAT exam results that were completed within the last 18-months from any certified CPAT certifying center.  The exam is designed to test your physical fitness ability to safely perform firefighter tasks and consist of (8) eight events.

1.       Stair Climb

2.       Hose Drag

3.       Equipment Carry

4.       Ladder Raise & Extension

5.       Forcible Entry
